One Child: One Computer – Smart Classrooms for the 21st CenturyThe National Secondary School Computer Fund (NSSCF) is investing $2.3 billion nationally to provide for new information and communications technology (ICT) for secondary schools with students in Years 9 to 12. The program is an important element of the Australian Government’s Digital Education Revolution agenda and will help address national ICT shortages in secondary schools by improving student’s access to computers. The program is underpinned by a strong partnership approach between the Australian and Queensland governments. It is hoped that the laptops provided to students under the Fund will assist student learning, both at school and at home. To help us achieve this goal it is important that students, and parents/or caregivers lend their support to this valuable program. Strong support from parents or caregivers is paramount to ensure the program is successful across the state and students gain the maximum benefit. WELCOME
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the school community. My name is Joy Craig and I have worked in Education Qld for 20 years. Prior to coming to Clifton, I was located at Beaudesert State High School as a Deputy Principal and before that as a Head of Department for Health, Physical Education and Sport at Windaroo Valley State High School.
I am very energised by the opportunity to locate to a rural community and to work at a smaller school which provides students with maximum opportunities, but in a smaller and caring environment. I have been very impressed by the hospitality and warmth that has been extended to myself and my family by the school and wider community as we have been settling into our new location. I have found Clifton to be a very welcoming community and have enjoyed the opportunity to meet and converse with a diverse range of people.
I bring with me a great passion for State Education and a commitment to obtaining the best results we can get as both individuals and as a school community. This commitment extends to all of our spheres of achievement: academic, cultural, sporting, SAT/VET outcomes and students’ social and emotional well being.
For 2011 we are committed to three core goals and these are: 1. School Results—A focus on continuing improvement and a commitment to maintaining and building on what we do well. 2. Curriculum—Reviewing and building on our current subject offerings and ensuring we are doing our best to meet the identified needs of our students. 3. Building Capacity—Ensuring our staff and students have access to the skills and learning they need in order to achieve the best possible results.
Our school motto translates as “Success Crowns Effort”. At my first address to the students, I challenged students to think of their learning and life goals. I suggested that what it looked like was as follows: i. Identify goals and priorities ii. Be ready to work and learn. Own our behaviour and work habits. Be prepared and in time to class iii. The focus is on our best effort at all times. iv. Pride in our school evidenced by wearing our uniform correctly, keeping our environment tidy, respect for self and others and celebrating our success’s.
2011 will bring many opportunities for our students and I look forward to sharing the journey with them. Joy Craig
