On Friday, 14th June 2019, Clifton SHS
hosted its first School Horse Sports supported by Cambooya Pony Club and the
CSHS P&C. The School Horse Sports are run under Pony Club Queensland rules;
all riders must be a member of a pony club. A total of 97 riders from nearly 30
schools attended this event at the Cambooya Recreation Grounds.
All schools firstly participated in the
March Past, with St Mary’s, Goondiwindi taking out first place followed by
Scots PGC, Oakey SHS and Border Rivers Christian College. Following this, all
riders participated in a number of events, including Best Presented, Rider
Class, Scudda Ho, Running Tee, Mug Race and Bawnduggie Bend amongst others.
Each event is judged on the fastest time and riders are sometimes eliminated
for knocking a peg, drum or jump.
CSHS had 8 riders representing our school –
Kiara Bressington (Age Champion), Elouise Hetherington (Reserve Champion),
Georgia Bruntflett (Reserve Champion), Amelia and Zoe Hewett, Lacey Marshall,
Maisie Atwell and Lily Rickert. All of these young ladies rode very well
throughout the day and Clifton SHS were awarded with Champion Secondary School.
Mrs McAntee, Mr Collyer, Mr Thorpe and Mrs James also attended on the day to
help with running various events.
A big thanks must go to Cambooya Pony Club,
especially Bernie Sutton, for their support in providing the venue, equipment
and much of the man-power for set up. The day ran very smoothly with many
compliments for the organization and efficiency.
